Click here to download a Garmin MapSource® (.mps) file that includes waypoints and routes for the Boundary Trail (in two parts), the Woods Lake Trail, and the Meiss Saddle route. Install this file to your Garmin GPS receiver to assist you in navigating around the area. Always carry a map and compass and know how to use them - do not rely on a GPS receiver alone.
The El Dorado Nordic Ski Patrol created the Boundary Trail in 1998 as an alternative to the old Winnemucca Lake Trail, which can no longer be maintained since it is now within the Mokelumne Wilderness. The Boundary Trail is well marked with blue diamonds outside of the wilderness. Any winter travel within the Mokelumne Wilderness is done using personal navigational skills without trail markings.
The Woods Lake Trail follows Old Highway 88 and the Woods Lake Road. The route is well marked with blue diamonds. The data is incomplete in the vicinity of Woods Lake simply because we haven't GPSed all of the blue diamonds there, yet.
The Meiss Saddle route is just a suggested route to get to Meiss Saddle from the Meiss Sno-Park. There are no blue diamonds to follow here. Beyond Meiss Saddle, you are on your own.
Enjoy!
